Riascos, a Second Team All-MHAL selection last season for FDR, averaged 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals a game last year. The 6’5’’ Riascos has one more year to improve his game before graduating and moving on to the next level. “He is really interested in going to prep school,” said Riascos’s high school coach Kevin Hart, in a recent interview with Upstate Scouting. “I think it will open more doors for him having another year of essentially high school.”
Riascos thrives on his improved shooting, and ability to slash and get to the rim. “He’s long, and tough to guard so he uses that to his advantage at the High School level. He’s just all-around a solid player, and I think his length and his height has a lot to do with that.” said Hart.
In his previous years on varsity, Riascos has racked up 631 points and Hart describes getting to 1,000 as one of Riascos’s personal goals for next season. If he is going to get there though, Riascos will need to deal with constant pressure of double teams from the opposing teams in the MHAL trying to take out FDR’s best offensive weapon. “I think this year he has to be ready to accept all and every challenge. He’s probably going to get double teamed, he’s going to have to work hard without the ball.”
Hart also is expecting big things from Riascos from a leadership perspective in his senior season. “His leadership, from a coaching standpoint is something I’m going to look for on a nightly basis. He’s gonna be looked at to lead in good times and in adverse times as well. I think his leadership is going to be extremely important, it’s going to be a big attribute for our teams success.”
Riascos has come along way in the past three seasons, and Hart hopes that this year will be a culmination of all of the hard work he has put in. “It’s a pleasure to see him grow over the last few years. For me in the grand scheme of things with him growing up as a young man and him being a senior, and he should have a pretty solid year it’s just the icing on the cake. He really wants to play basketball at the next level, whatever division or prep school that may be.”
Upstate Scouting thanks, Coach Kevin Hart for his time, and wishes Felix Riascos and Franklin D. Roosevelt the best of luck next season.
