There is something to be said about being the top scorer in Section II, and there have been many.  Joey Lufkin is no stranger to that list.  In his senior season at Argyle, Lufkin is averaging 36.1 points per game, which is good for best in the section.  He also has 51 three-pointers thus far, which is tops of the section, and he’s fifth in free throw percentage.  Lufkin also excels in the classroom, with an 87 GPA.  Lufkin continues to make his mark at Argyle and broke the single game scoring record with 54 points in a 96-47 win.

Lufkin is leading his 12-0 team in the direction they have been accustomed to since taking the last three Adirondack league titles.  Joey and his team’s goal was to “win a fourth title in a row, and make a run in sectionals.”  When asked what he loves most about the game, Lufkin said “just to win.”  He must be loving this season so far.  He also has had success as a member of the Albany City Rocks AAU team.

Lufkin has been receiving interest from some D2 and D3 schools, so despite his 5’9″ stature, he hasn’t come up short on athletic interest at the next level.  Joey wants to pursue a physical education major in college, plus hopes to pursue sports management and business classes.  As a dedicated student-athlete, he’s always eager to get better.  When asked what his weaknesses are and what he thinks he needs to work on, Lufkin said, “Height, but mostly to improve my shooting and strength, because you can never be satisfied with them”.

Lufkin’s hard work has been paying off and his dominance on the court is a tribute to that.  We at Upstate Scouting Service want to thank Joey for his time, and want to wish him and the rest of the team the best of success in this regular season, sectionals and beyond.
