Wil Bathurst is one of the best basketball players in Western New York. At 6’3”, Bathurst is a gifted guard who led his Huskies to another successful season. Finishing the season ranked number six in the State Class B Boys’ Poll, the Olean team will have Bathurst back to try to win the state championship next season as a senior. The Huskies from Olean have made the state Final Four three times in the past seven seasons. However, the 2012-2013 season ended in the State Quarterfinals for the Huskies, losing to Batavia 62-63.

As a sophomore, Bathurst was named to the All Western New York Third Team. For most players, this would be the pinnacle achievement of a high school career. However, Wil Bathurst is not a typical player. He played all summer long, improving his game to the point of being named to the All Western New York First Team this season as a junior. With one season left in his high school career, Bathurst still has plenty left to accomplish for himself and the Olean Huskies.

The 2012-2013 campaign saw Bathurst put up 18 points, 8 rebounds, and over 3 assists per game. The junior guard grew as a player and developed his outside game, as well as his finishing abilities at the rim. He was faster and more determined than the players he was going against all season. Once the postseason rolled around, Bathurst was determined to improve upon the Final Four finish from the 2011-2012 season. He was a more than just a player a team could “win with”, but instead a player a team could win “because of.” He was very aggressive and was after every loose ball. If it was within his reach, he would get it. Although the season did end in defeat, Bathurst has shown great signs of physical and mental development that will put him in a great position when his senior season rolls around.

Upstate Scouting Service would like to wish Wil Bathurst and his team from Olean luck this summer as they go through their AAU season.
