It’s not very often that a player as talented as Travis Atson goes unnoticed, especially when that players comes from a program as prestigious as Christ the King. For some reason though, this seems to be the case for 2015 guard. Atson, who is someone who plays with maturity beyond his years and can hit shots from all over, it appears that he decided this past weekend would be the last time people over looked him.
At CTK, Atson plays under Joe Arbitello, who has produced a number of D1 guards, with the most recently being current Fordham freshmen sensation Jon Severe. With the graduation of Severe, it was clear coming into the season that someone needed to emerge and so far this season, Travis Atson who has risen to the occasion
This past weekend, Atson was named MVP of the Mirabito STOP-DWI Holiday Classic in Binghamton, NY. The 2015 guard wasted no time putting his talents on display, as he went off for 26 points and 14 rebounds in a 2 point victory over St. Michaels College School. The following day, he continued to crash the boards, collecting 10 rebounds to go with 17 points as CTK pulled out another close win, this time against Philadelphia MC&S to setup a showdown with Long Island Lutheran. On the third and final day, Atson would not disappoint as he led his team to the tournament title over LuHi, while going for 17 points on 3-5 from behind the arc.
As the season and his career progress, expect Atson to continue to put up these types of numbers. At 6’4” 175lbs, he is a matchup because nightmare because of his athleticism and ability to hit shots from all over the court. To make things tougher on his opponents, he has worked tirelessly on his ball handling and defense over the past year.
Currently, the CTK guard is flying under the radar in terms of recruiting having received zero offers while receiving some interest from schools in leagues such as the Patriot and A-10. College coaches that are looking for a big athletic guard with a well-rounded game and good grades, make sure to take notice of Travis Atson before its too late.
