The Scotia-Glenville Tartans capped off one of the best seasons in New York State High School Basketball history this past weekend with a 68-52 victory over Holy Trinity in the State Federation Final. That game was the final piece to a perfect 27-0 season, in which Scotia completely dominated almost every opponent.
The reason that the Tartans had such a successful season was because they completely embraced the team concept. They put in countless hours working out with Dags Basketball and even played the entire AAU season together. While no one is questioning this decision now, it did hurt their current seniors’ recruitment.
One of these seniors is Dom LeMorta, who has collected a number of awards since the end of the regular season. He was named to the Sectional, State, and Federation Tournament teams on the road to each of those championships. With this type of resume, some would expect this senior to have a wide range of interest, but that is not the case.
Along with being a team-first player, this 6’3” senior has great size for a guard and is able to stretch the floor well behind the arc, where he uses the combination of his length and picture perfect release to be a matchup nightmare for opponents. Over the past year, Dom has worked tirelessly on his handle and is now able to consistently beat his defender off the dribble. Once he gets by them, he is able to finish a number of ways in the paint.
In addiation to his shooting ability, Dom will provide his future coach the intangibles to win games at the next level. He comes from a very successful and well-coached high school program led by Jim Giammattei, which will allow him to step in and contribute right away.
With his successful high school career in the books, it is time for Dom to finally
focus on himself and determine which college he will attend. College coaches who are looking for an elite shooter to either establish or continue a winning tradition should look no further because Dom LeMorta is the answer.
