The last week of the 2012 CDBA season begins tonight with a matchup between last year’s champion and current basement dwellers, D & D Power, whose record stands at 2-3, going up against SEFCU, who after a strong start have dropped their last two to sit at 2-2 on the summer.
In last week’s Upstate Scout Game of the Week, Phil Sellers’ (pictured above) KeyBank squad beat out American Energy Care by a score of 76-61. Five out of the seven players who suited up for KeyBank on Monday night scored in double-figures in the double-digit rout, a game whose outcome was never really in question. Anthony Armstead netted 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the losing effort for American Energy Care.
KeyBank finds themselves at the top of the standings heading into the season’s final week at 3-1. SEFCU, NBT Bank, and Janitronics are tied at 2-2 and American Energy Care and Team Deas are in the cellar together at 2-3. American Energy Care could have been spared from that connotation if not for an upset win against Janitronics on Thursday night. Without James Thomas, Deas was down their best offensive threat, but an early injury to Mark Edmonds allowed them to pick up Bishop Maginn and Penn State grad Talor Battle, who led Deas to the victory. With his team trailing by a few points, Battle drew a foul that sent him to the game with one second left. He missed the second shot, which was tipped in at the buzzer by Devyn Erwyn to secure the win for Deas.
The last week of the season could prove crucial for the three teams that find themselves in a tie for second place. With a bye Monday night, Team Deas will have one more shot on Thursday against KeyBank to prove that they belong in the playoffs and D & D Power will have to get through SEFCU and Janitronics to have a chance to repeat as champs in 2012. It certainly has been an exciting season thus far and with no playoff seed clinched to date, it will be an exhilarating final week.
