Croton-Harmon star Ian Thom is turning heads with his play in Section I. Thom has been a member of Croton-Harmon’s varsity squad since his freshman season, and has amounted dozens of accolades over that time for his performance both on and off the court.

Thom led his team in scoring each of the past two seasons, scoring over 17 points a contest last year, incredibly on under 14 shots per game, showing tremendous efficiency. The 6’0’’ guard also led his team in assists per game with nearly five and a half, as well as having a 3.02/1 assist to turnover ratio and amassing over 4 rebounds per game.

Thom was named to the 5th Team All New York State, as well as All Section and All Conference honors, and was named the league MVP. Under the leadership of Thom, Croton-Harmon finished the season with a 16-5 record and a Number 20 ranking in the New York State Sportswriters Poll. Thom also has made the cut for the Section I BCNAY roster for the second year in a row, where he will compete against the top talent from around New York State.

With still one more season to go, Thom is on pace to become the all-time leading scorer in Croton-Harmon school history as well as the school’s third ever 1,000 point scorer. If he keeps up his current pace of dishing it out as well, Thom will become the school’s all-time leader in assists to go along with his scoring record.

Thom maintains a 94 average and takes AP classes in High School, showing that he takes his work in the classroom just as seriously as his play on the court. Thom was honored with the Con Edison Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award in February, one of the most prestigious in the Metropolitan area. The award is even more impressive when you factor in that Thom was the only junior selected for the award, which is normally given out only to seniors.

Thom has been surrounded by basketball his whole life. His older brother Billy Thom is the current Director of Basketball operations at Division I Davidson College. His father Bill has been the Head Coach of Boys Basketball at Croton-Harmon for well over 20 years, as well as being the coach of the Hudson Valley team who won the 2010 Empire State Games.

Ian Thom will look to be the next in the family to continue the basketball legacy when he finishes his time at Croton-Harmon and moves on to the college level. First though, he will have one more go at it to try and lead the Tigers to a championship.
