For today’s player profile, Upstate Scouting moves out to Section 7 to look at Beekmantown High standout, Keegan Ryan.
Ryan averaged a remarkable 26.9 points per game last year for Beekmantown, which led the CVAC conference.
In his junior season, Ryan took over as one of the top scorers in the section, notching at least 20 points in all but one of his games, highlighted by a 42 point performance against Seton Catholic.
Ryan has been getting looks from several colleges around the Northeast about continuing his basketball career .
Ryan’s father Tom recently told Upstate Scouting that Hobart, St. John Fisher, Oswego, Oneonta, Middlebury, Hamilton, Elmira, and Brandeis are among the schools who have contacted Keegan about playing college basketball, but he said his son is still unsure of where he wants to attend.
Scouts have been impressed with Ryan’s ability to score, as well as his great fundamental play for a big man. “People that watch him play say they like his footwork. He rebounds and boxes out well. I would say he’s developing a midrange game and handles the ball fairly well”, said Tom Ryan.
Ryan not only excels on the court, but also in the classroom, where he has earned a 97 overall average. This summer, Ryan attended the Hoop Mountain Elite All Academic Exposure Camp in Boston, which is reserved for the best student athletes in the Northeast.
On the court, Ryan is looking to continue his stellar play next season for Beekmantown, while working towards playing in college in two years. “Keegan is looking to continue to improve on his strength. Although he’s strong now, what they say to him is work on the strength, work on the quickness and guarding people away from the basket,” said Tom Ryan.
As for his team goals for next year, Keegan’s dad said he has a couple of important milestones in mind. “He’s close to reaching 1,000 points, so that’s something he is looking to do. He would also like to win sectionals and go on to state play”.
Upstate Scouting wishes the best of luck to Keegan Ryan in his senior year and wants to thank Tom Ryan for answering our questions.
