Coming out of his sophomore season at Pearl River, Degnan managed to make a loaded Mid-Hudson BCANY team over the summer, and the 6’8’’ forward excelled against the best competition in the state. “The kids played well. Kevin contributed every game. He loves it up there,” said Kevin’s father, Bill Degnan, in a recent interview with Upstate Scouting.
Degnan has already picked up offers from four D1 schools including Siena and Fairfield from the MAAC, and Duquense and Fordham from the Atlantic-10, but is not leaning in any direction yet, according to his father.
At 6’8’’, Degnan’s ability to play inside/outside has helped him become one of the top players in Section One. “He can shoot the three really well, handle the ball pretty well, and heruns the floor extremely well for his size,” said Bill Degnan about his son.
If Degnan can get stronger and improve his ball handling, he could end up dominating the competition at Pearl River by his senior season.
With two full seasons to go, Bill Degnan knows it will be a challenge for Kevin adjusting to his new-found attention on the court. “He’s probably gonna be the guy every game- he knows that. He’s gonna have to overcome double teams, and just extra pressure all game long and he’s never had that before.”
Still, based on the fact that he was attracting looks from D1 coaches as a 10th grader, chances are good that he will be able to figure it out.
Upstate scouting thanks Bill Degnan for answering our questions and wishes Kevin the best of the luck in his future.
